When we left we were aware of trying to dodge Beach traffic, which we were mostly successful at until we got into the 76/676 nightmare traffic jam east of Philadelphia. We were in this traffic jam for an hour and a half. Willa woke up and cried for the last 45 minutes of this. We really couldn't get off the highway until we got across the Delaware River, so we took the first exit and got her out of her seat for a quick break.
Getting back on that highway was out of the question, so we headed for the National Park. Here are some shots:
First, a picture of relieved parents. We found a parking spot on Pine Street between 2nd and 3rd St.
We walked downtown through some of Doug's old stomping grounds. We saw Ben Franklin's home (just the outline of it).
Ames LOVED the horse and buggy tours.
Eventually we made it to the visitor center.
And found a very interesting plaque:
Finally we got back to the vicinity of our car and had a really great pizza- fresh mozzarella, with prosciutto and arugula.
Back on the highway with completely clear roads and two tired kids- it was quiet for the rest of the drive. Ahhhhhh...
