From Susan

Hi Dad,
I was out taking some pictures of my garden this morning.

Bees
Here is a penstemon with a bee on it. If you tap on the picture, it might even show large enough to see pollen grains in the air!


While doing that, I saw this little guy emerge from one of the flowers. Another kind of bee.


I thought all that was pretty cool...

Moths
...But then, THIS thing showed up!!!


It's a little smaller than a hummingbird, but not by much!



A little while later, I spotted the same kind of insect on a Dianthus:

Thanks to the miraculous internet, I am able to suppose that it is the "White-Lined Sphinx Moth", known to entomologists as Hyles lineata. Indeed, I was gratified to know that it is sometimes called "The Hummingbird Moth!"
